I used to be annoyingly obsessed with arcade cabinets from the 80s and 90s, largely because of the designs and artwork on the machines (not to mention the beautifully chaotic sounds and well honestly, the simplicity of the gameplay).

I bring this up now because, upon rediscovering various 80s cabinets, I think I’ve fallen in love all over again.

One of my favorite arcade machine designs used to be Mario Bros. (1983) and the TMNT games, Sunset Riders, Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands were certainly the ones I played the most.

What was the first video game soundtrack you found legitimately unsettling?

Can’t remember mine, but it could be the Splatterhouse soundtracks. They’re wonderfully spooky.

Also, “my” next tune will be directly ripped from an unreleased Super Famicom Godzilla game from early ‘92, totally.

Was going to skip out on making a blog today, but…

Have you listened to

Yasuaki Shimizu’s “Kakashi” album, or any of his other stuff?

You won’t regre-e-e-e-e-e-et it.

My earphones are on their way out. Only the right speaker works. I typically like listening to music with earphones instead of headphones (for… reasons), so I’ve been stubbornly sticking to these dying ones.

Also, it’s reminded me how completely unlistenable my songs can be with one speaker.

Well, that’s mostly a joke.

Mostly.

Pxtone, the music software the Cave Story dev developed, looks very interesting to use. I had no idea it was even available to the public until now.

I’ve been pretty uninspired the last few days,  so it’d be fun to play around with it.

I typically don’t swear, but I’ll gladly make an exception.

Hell.

…. o, how are you?

I remember as a young lad playing my copy of Sonic 2 (a game I’d beaten many, MANY times by this point), when I discovered once

the record scratch plays in Metropolis Zone, pausing at the precise time lets the sample play out in its entirety.

I thought it was pretty odd that the sample didn’t show up elsewhere in the soundtrack, as well as being unintentionally hidden.

Have you ever written an instrumental song that made yourself weep, specifically for how it sounded to you?

Apples? More like “napples”.

’Cuz they put me to sleep and remind me of Napple Tale, which.. should be a positive, actually.

In any case, I only like eating apples sliced, but even then… bananas will always be my go-to.

Apple JUICE, on the other hand… (CLAP) hohohooo, boy!
